Posed vs. Lifestyle Photography

I thought I'd share a humorous example of what we try NOT to do on a photo session, and why its so important to find a photographer who can work with you in a natural setting, allowing your family to interact in a natural way.  This is me and my sweet family celebrating the 4th of July: and it is a perfect example of what is so appealing about Lifestyle photography in contrast to "sit & say cheese" photography.
Here is a series of pics my sweet cousin snapped on the 4th of July for us.   My kiddos are ages 4 and 1.5 - needless to say, sitting down, and smiling quietly for the camera does not work for them...you can see how successful we were in getting a single picture with everyone looking and smiling. :)  And, even if it was possible, in reality, it doesn't really capture them as they are or the special relationships we share.

My job, as an on-location Lifestly photographer, is to allow my clients to sit back, relax, and enjoy a few hours of time together without worrying about how to sit, how to pose, and definately without any "SAY CHEESE!" moments.  Lifestyle portraiture is all about capturing those moments as they really are, in an artistic beautiful way.  It is what I love to do and what draws people to my work.

So next time you head out for family pictures, sit back, relax, and just enjoy each other...and some magical moments will unfold without you even trying!  (That's MY job! :))

Mr.B

Got to do another babe - such a sweet sweet little man.  He was very alert during our session, but as pleasant as could be, and very patient during our quick sleeping shots!

His Daddy is a rugged, adventurous outdoorsman so we wanted to incorporate his gear into the pics.  Isn't he a little cutie?!?

Brand New

What a dream this little lady was to photograph - she was so patient and slept beautifully throughout the session.  It is an amazing thing to see a family's dynamics around a new baby. I loved watching mother, father and big brother interact with this little angel.  Thank you so much Martha and Daniel - it was such a pleasure working with you!

Beauty

This was one of my most favorite sessions to do.  Sandra and Jeremy were so great to work with and it was another great reminder of why I love my job!  To get the opportunity to meet wonderful people, to catch a glimpse of their lives and relationships, and capture it for them artistically is incredible.  This sweet couple had so much tender emotion for eachother and for their sweet baby on the way and were totally at ease in front of the camera.  I left the session totally rejuvenated and recommitted to sharing such great emotion with my sweet husband and kids.  Thanks so much guys - it was such an honor to be a part of this process with you.  Good luck on the big day and I can't wait to meet the baby!

Double the Fun!

These little angels were sweet as can be...they were so patient as we tweaked, stacked pillows, twisted...what angels.  And their mama is an angel to be such a great assistant when she really should have been getting a much needed NAP!  Thanks so much K!!  They are BEAUTIFUL!!

Precious...

Oh how I love to photograph new babies....they are just so so yummy, there's no getting around it.  And they stay that way for such a short while.   Little Miss C. was such an angel, especially with the short time we had.  It was such a pleasure to capture these early moments for this mama.

K + D = One adorable E

Here's some of my favorites from our snow session...they were such good sports with the cold weather, even little Miss E who's still not quite used to the snow.  She was much happier when we freed her from the restrictions of her coat.  Thanks guys!!

Had to share this...break downs can still be absolutely adorable! :)

You don't get much more gorgeous than this....
